Welcome
Dear Parents, Every year I enjoy breakfast meetings in Oct. with the S.1 parents. These gatherings serve as a platform to allow parents an opportunity to ask questions, express their views and comments on any worries or concerns. Occasionally I heard parents say that when their children were in P.3 or P.4 they had already decided to send their children to our school. Some told me that when they had decided to enroll their children in our school, their children's primary school teachers would persuade them not to do so because their children had the caliber to secure a place in a prestigious traditional secondary school. I was excited to learn of this as it is a confirmation of our teachers' dedication and efforts. Yet the involvement of the students and the support of the parents are significant to achieving such positive feedback. The synergy of these stakeholders and the blessings from God have enabled the school to attain such success within a few short years. I have frequently been asked about the uniqueness of our school and what I have done which has enabled the school to establish such a good reputation within the short period of time. Firstly, I would say that we have a different learning sky and a cohesive team of dedicated Christian teachers who love and care for the students. Education is a life transforming process in which teachers play a very significant role. Thus, teachers must have a heart for the students and they are expected to be properly trained and carefully selected, so that the school can have a teaching team of one heart and one accord to facilitate effective teaching and learning. Secondly, we try our best to put God first in all we do and do what is best for the students. We emphasize on the students' academic excellence and cherish their spiritual growth, the character building and the non-academic development of each and every one. We try our best to provide a sustainable (or lifelong) education which would benefit the students and the world they are going to live in. Thirdly, we firmly believe that parents are a great asset in school education. Thus, we embrace parents into the school life and make them feel an integral part of the school. We offer parent education, create opportunities for parents to be connected to teachers and other parents, and involve parents in an array of school activities. At the same time, we work at cultivating an open and caring atmosphere for our parents to appreciate the school. We desire not only to see our students love the school, but also hope that our parents will feel likewise. I am confident that the information in his brochure, the sharing of our teachers, the students and the parents should provide you with a better picture of UCCKE and help you triangulate what I have stated above. If P.6 parents are interested in learning more about our school, you are most welcome to log on to our school website (www.uccke.edu.hk), come to our Open Day or even talk to us individually. May God bless you and your family! Dr. David To has served as a principal for twenty-five years at two secondary schools after a short four-year stint as a teacher. While spearheading the first school, Dr. To also held positions of part-time lecturer of the M.Ed. Program at HKU, the principal training program at CUHK and a degree program at HKBU. He was also a tutor of the M.Ed. Program at the OUHK and a professor at the Research Institute for Christian Education. He was a member of different committees under the jurisdiction of the Education Bureau, the SSPA Allocation Committee, the JSEA Committee, the CDC and a chairman of the Secondary Curriculum Coordinating Committee. Dr. To was appointed as the Honorary Associate Professor of the Open University of Hong Kong in 2008-2009. Currently, he is the board member of several Christian schools and organizations and the volunteer pastor of the School Church.
